Maine is living up to its reputation for being beautiful, rugged and remote. The obstacle course the AMC maintains as the trail in the White Mountains is once again a proper trail. The climbs can still be pretty tough, but my mileage is creeping back up. The hardwood forests are pretty much gone. Now we have thick stands of spruce and fir or the occasional peak above treeline. Lakes and ponds are also found around every corner. I have spotted two moose so far – both cows. That was the last animal I was hoping to see on the trip. The weather is holding in the upper 70s by day and mid 50s at night. Let’s hope it stays right there.
