It has been an excellent weekend. The kickoff party was a huge success. I got to meet many of the class of 2005 hikers and also see old friends. The event was held at Lake Morena Campground. The kickoff organizers rented the entire place and there were tents and hikers sprawled out in all directions. The PCT travels right next to the campground and I’m interested to see what it looks like empty.
The weather has been cooler here than I expected. Low 40’s at night and upper 60’s during the day with frequent cloud cover and scattered showers. It has given me a chance to test out my clothing layers. I found out that sections of the trail starting about 180 miles north are completely snowbound and some of the bigger parks have over 10ft of snow on top. This only reinforced my decision to delay my start date.
