The scenery changed in a hurry today. As I left Kennedy Meadows the scrub trees disappeared. In their place were forested ravines & grassy meadows. The trail climbed steadily all day. My pack was heavy loaded with 5+ days of food & a bear cannister.I watched a thunderstorm drench the adjacent valley, but I got away with just a few sprinkles. That’s the first thunder I’ve heard on the trail – yet another indication that the ecosystem has changed. The clouds cleared off during early evening & I was rewarded with views of the snow capped peaks ahead. I had a little snow today, but I expect the real snow to begin tomorrow.
