Old Statrion

Posted from Old Station, California, United States.

I slept in this morning, packed up, and walked back to Drakesbad for breakfast. When I got there, they had a table reserved for us & a great breakfast. Seeing that there was no way we could make it to Old Station before the P.O. closed, Jewel Thief & I called the trail angels & asked them to pick up our packages.

All set, we started hiking around 9am. After about an hour, we came to a trail junction. Glancing at the sign, we headed out. Thirty minutes later, we realized we took the wrong trail and headed back. It is soooo frustrating when stuff like that happens, but you just have to go with it. The trail meandered through Lassen National Park & took a detour since the official route was closed due to fire. The detour was pretty, but buggy as it walked past 4 lakes.

I ended up rolling into Old Station at 7pm & we called the family there that hosts hikers. I had broken down & purchased a pocketmail device to make my journaling easier. I placed it into a sock in my clothes bat to protect it – but failed to remember this when we did laundry. Part way through the wash I jumped up and ran for the washer, but it was too late. I took the device apart and dried it out, but I didn’t have much hope. Jewel Thief & I are sleeping in a treehouse tonight. Tomorrow we will head north across the infamous Hat Creek Rim. My replacement trekking pole piece was waiting for me here, so tomorrow I’ll be back to my bi-poler self for the first time in at least a month.
