Unnamed Saddle

Posted from Callahan, California, United States.

The alarm went off at 5am, but I didn’t actually move until 6. It was 7am when Jewel Thief & I made it back to the trail and started hiking. The trail was pretty easy all morning so even without a real early start we were able to whip out 15 miles by noon.

We entered the Trinity Alps Wilderness this afternoon. The trail continued to walk along a ridge, but now we were rewarded with views of jagged, snow-capped peaks. It became somewhat cloudy this afternoon and all too soon the rumble of thunder was heard. Finally at around 6pm, the rain we had dodged pretty much the whole trip came down. At first it was just a light sprinkle, but it didn’t take long to become a steady downfall.

Just after arriving at our ridgetop camp, the rain let up. We setup tents and cooked supper. There is still a storm near us though and the lightening from that one flashes through the tent every few minutes. Tomorrow we have 19 miles until the road to Etna which we should be able to whip out by mid-afternoon.
