Oregon State Line
Oregon State Line

Oregon at last! Jewel Thief and I crossed the border shortly after lunch. We ate lunch near a trail crew doing work on the last few miles of trail in California. After lunch we climbed up and down several hills to make it to the shelter.

California was long. 1698 miles, 3 months + 1 day, 2 pairs of shoes, and 19 pints of Ben & Jerry’s – but who’s counting? In comparison, Virginia was the longest state on the AT and it was just over 500 miles. At least 1/3 of the states doesn’t equate to only 1/3 of my total distance.

At the border we took celebration photos, including one of me burning my CA fire permit (that’s irony at its best). I know that we just crossed an arbitrary line on a map, but mentally it is a big deal. After today’s miles we only have 10 miles to Ashland. After that it’s 4 more days to Crater Lake for some much needed time off.
