Since our hotel was only 1 mile from the trail, we were back hiking by 9:30am. Not too bad for a town day. For once, we didn’t have a huge climb leaving the road.
Most of the day was spent along a low ridge with lots of grasses. This section of trail is managed by the Bureau of Land Management so we walked through lots of cattle gates and fields. By the end of the day we made it to Hyatt Lake and took a quick jog down to the boat ramp for a coke at the store. Unfortunately the store was closed for the night – maybe I shouldn’t have goofed around during the day as much.
We hiked on another 1/2 mile past the campground and stopped to cook dinner at the water spigot. After dinner we hiked just far enough to be out of earshot of the campground and made our own camp. We’ll have to make bigger miles in the next 2 days to make it to Crater Lake.
