Jack Springs Spur Trail

Posted from Klamath Falls, Oregon, United States.

I got an excellent night’s sleep which enabled me to get another early start. Today’s trail went through the Sky Lakes Wilderness with its many lakes. The trail went by none of them and water sources were scarce which was very frustrating.

At lunch we ran into Freebird who was heading South on a flip-flop hike from Mt. Whitney. We ended up talking with him for over an hour getting caught up with all the trail info. He also gave us info on several nice side routes coming up.

After lunch, we climbed up to a saddle with impressive views to as far back as Mt. Shasta – will that mountain never leave? After a nap, we headed down to our second and last water source of the day where we cooked dinner. Filling up on water, we hiked another 6 miles to our campsite; arriving just before dark. With our mileage the last 2 days we only have 18 miles to do tomorrow.
