It was chilly in the morning, but we managed to get started by 7:30. We began by starting a 2600′ climb – as seems to be the theme of this section. Partway up we reached a beautiful basin with a lake below Cathedral Rock. We reached the pass at the top shortly before lunch and dropped back down to a creek for lunch.
It turns out that we had 3 more passes with big climbs before them. It reminded me of the passes in the Sierras, but there we only had 1 pass a day. The views were beautiful. The air was chilly all day – even in the sun.
About 7:00 we made it to a campsite a couple of miles north of the last pass. I put on lots of clothes as soon as I stopped. Today, the last day of summer, I passed the 200 miles to go mark.
